Welcome@Telekom in English

May 12, 2010

Welcome or Willkommen: being an international company, Deutsche Telekom employs an ever growing number of people from all across the world. Therefore, Deutsche Telekom has now launched its Welcome@Telekom Days where the company welcomes its new employees, also in English.

It is immaterial whether we now say "Welcome" or "Willkommen" – Deutsche Telekom’s main aim is to make things smooth for the new employees joining the Group. Once a month, the two-day event is held for around 50 newcomers – and now, for the first time, in English. Björn Skalicky from Corporate Talent Management of the Human Resources Development Competence Center explains, "As a global company, we are committed to increasing the number of our international staff and making them feel at home from day one." A familiar language makes things easier in the beginning. For this reason, future Welcome@Telekom Days will be held in German and in English. Newcomer Luis Lugo is happy about this. After attending the first Welcome@Telekom Days in English, Luis was keen on having many more welcome events in English. Deutsche Telekom would only be too happy to fulfill his request.

At the event Welcome@Telekom, new employees learned about the basic values and strategy of the Group.

Focus on service

Even if different languages are to be introduced in the future, the contents of the events held in German and English are to remain the same. The Group introduces itself: its history, strategy, values, its brand and future innovations. Deutsche Telekom has set aside two days to elaborate on how it intends to shape the future course of the Group with the commitment and support of the newcomers. The organization Deutsche Telekom is indeed complex; yet, it should function as one unit, as One Company. This requires that every employee really understands and knows its structures. The Welcome@Telekom event focuses on Deutsche Telekom’s philosophy of service. In practical exercises and workgroups, participants learn the actual significance of service-oriented conduct.

Welcome@Telekom is only the start. Deutsche Telekom attends to the needs of its new employees even after the event and provides experienced mentors to support them in the initial stages. Newcomer Julijana Blümler feels she is in good hands in the Telekom family. "It’s great to be part of the big T".
