Brief description
The possibilities of therapy for people with cancer have distinctly improved in the last few years. One reason for this is the so-called tumor conferences. There, medical experts from a variety of disciplines regularly exchange opinions, discuss current cases and possible therapies and decide on suitable treatments together.
Whereas up to now the doctors always have had to make their way to the various conference venues, the web-based telemedicine solution “tumor conference” now offers the opportunity to dial in to such discussions online. Or as an alternative, entire conferences can be digitally recorded and downloaded with this system. Participants can then have discussions online, by video-conference. The tumor conference does not only include the discussion itself, but the solution also covers all process steps, both before and after the conference. Thus doctors can use the system to send invitations to colleagues, can exchange diagnoses and X-ray photographs in advance or prepare new therapy concepts following the conference.
Project aim
The aim of the tumor conference is to make possible the interdisciplinary exchange of experiences between doctors, therapists and cancer specialists, and to support the process flow of a tumor conference by using a modern communications solution.
Benefits
Instead of making the expensive trip to a conference, medical experts can exchange opinions at the tumor conference online, using video conference facilities. The telemedicine solution is scalable, enables GPs to take part in a tumor conference and thus saves both money and valuable time. This can then be put to good use in looking after their patients.
Project status
At present, the hospitals in Friedrichshafen and Konstanz and GPs from Friedrichshafen can take advantage of the system.
